Plate-Loaded Farmers Walk Handles (Pair)
What it's for
Farmer's walk handles take the Olympic plates you already own and turn them into a carry. Load both sides, pick the handles up off the floor and walk. The weight remains in your hands for the full distance, making grip part of the challenge alongside the legs, upper back and trunk.
The pair suits loaded carries, timed holds and finishers at the end of a strength session. Weight hangs from the hands rather than sitting across the back or shoulders, and the load can be adjusted by adding or removing plates.
Use them for:
- Loaded carries
- Static and timed holds
- Loaded marches
- Shrugs
How it works
Each handle is 120.5cm long, with a raised grip bridge welded across the centre. Plates load onto the 30cm sections at either end, distributing the weight on both sides of the hand rather than placing the entire load in front of or behind it.
The loading sleeves measure 50mm in diameter and take Olympic-size weight plates. Each end holds up to two plates alongside its collar, depending on plate thickness.
The central section measures 60.5cm, while the grip sits approximately 13cm above the bar and provides 16.3cm of space for the hand. The grip itself measures 32mm in diameter, slightly thicker than the shaft on many Olympic barbells.
Each loading end has its own collar. Once the plates are loaded, slide the collars into position and secure them before lifting. Four collars are supplied with the pair, so every loading end can be secured.
There is no fixed resistance built into the handles. Use a lighter setup for longer carries and repeated lengths, add plates for shorter and heavier efforts, or carry the same load further and hold it for longer without adding another plate at all.
Designed for everyday use
The handles are made from steel, with the raised grip bridge welded directly to the centre section. A black powder-coated finish covers the grip, bar and loading sections. The loading sections come into repeated contact with weight plates, so cosmetic marking of the coating occurs as plates are loaded and removed. This is normal on plate-loaded equipment and does not affect how the handles load.
These handles have no base beneath the loading sections, so a loaded handle rests on its own plates when it reaches the floor. The plates take the impact, along with whatever the plates are standing on. Slow down at the end of each length and lower the handles rather than dropping them, particularly on tile, laminate or thinner gym flooring. Steady carries, timed efforts and static holds suit the design better than shuttle work with abrupt turns.
Storage & space
At 120.5cm per handle these are substantial, but carries need a lane more than they need a room. A clear stretch across a garage, home training space or driveway is enough for repeated lengths. Leave additional room at each end to slow down, set the handles down and turn.
Once unloaded, there is no folding or adjustment mechanism to deal with. Store the handles along the base of a rack, beneath a suitable bench or in another secure position where they will not roll or become a trip hazard.
